InshaAllah I'll be departing for Singapore soon to meet the other ladies who've signed up for the Kashmir spiritual retreat with me & Ustazah Diyanah Yanti.
I've been preparing for the learning & reflection circles and got reminded of this exercise that we did during the A Year to Live course.
This was the prompt:
"If your life was to be made into a museum exhibit with ten large paintings depicting the most significant moments of your life, which scenes would the artist depict? First list them out and then give a description of each scene that is to be depicted as if you were explaining it to the artist who would paint from your descriptions.

Lastly, write a paragraph or more about why you choose each scene and its significance to you and your life.

Here, we are not focusing on what other people might say were your most important moments, but rather what moments were most important from your own perspective. These could be moments that outwardly may not seem the most impactful, but carry immense significance to you."
Since doing that exercise years ago, I feel like it's always humming at the back of my mind and as I go through life, I wonder if I should swap out one new experience/scene for a previously-chosen one, especially with my recent Hajj. Hajj also wasn't one scene. There were so many different scenes at Hajj and some of the more impactful ones weren't even the major Arafah/Mina/Muzdalifah as one might expect but a quiet moment after a du'a in the hotel, or a walk back from the mosque etc.
I think what I love about the exercise is needing to step back and look at your life as a journey (that hasn't ended yet), and also being curious about what the significant moments did to you, or for you, and what they meant.
Anyhow, that's just one of the many prompts we'd be doing during the Remembering Death, Choosing Life retreat. We are leaving on 4 July from Singapore. Go with us, or if you're from overseas, meet us there! 10 ladies have signed up, we have a maximum of 15 spots to keep it cosy and private.

Open Hearts Snail Mail Club - Individual Letter Sets Now Available for Purchase!
After running the club for 6 months (honestly, it's given me so much joy & connection!), I've decided to offer the monthly letter sets without a subscription. This came about for a few reasons.
One, some people missed the deadline to join before the June one (longest letter yet as I shared my reflections from Hajj) and really wanted it.
Two, snail mail club members sometimes really enjoyed a particular letter and wanted to gift that particular one to a particular friend or family member.
Three, some people wanted to experience it before committing to a monthly subscription.

As a reminder, every Open Hearts Snail Mail Club letter includes:
- My reflections on living open-heartedly, and spiritual & personal growth (and failings!)
- A journal/reflection prompt for us to get to know ourselves better
- A poem (either a new poem from me or a poem Iโm loving that month)
